Eliminate pain, promote muscle healing and improve overall function with trigger-point dry needling.  Excellent for chronic pain, sports injuries and more.  Dry needling is intended to unwind tight muscles and relieve muscle pain.  Excellent for athletes, sciatica and muscle pain.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves inserting thin needles into the skin, muscles, or connective tissues without injecting any substance
(hence the term).  It is primarily used to relieve pain and address musculoskeletal conditions.

The goal of dry needling is to stimulate trigger points or myofascial trigger points, which are localized areas of muscle tightness and tenderness that can cause pain and dysfunction.

These trigger points are often associated with muscle knots or bands.  By inserting a needle directly into these trigger points, the practitioner aims to elicit a response that can release muscle tension, reduce pain, and restore normal function.

Dry needling is based on the principles of Western medicine and neurophysiology rather than traditional Chinese acupuncture.  While acupuncture and dry needling both involve the use of needles, they differ in their underlying theories and techniques.

Acupuncture is rooted in the concept of energy flow along specific meridians in the body, whereas dry needling focuses on the physical and mechanical aspects of trigger points and their effects on pain and muscle function.

Dry needling is typically performed by healthcare professionals such as Osteopaths or physicians who have received specific training in the technique.  It is commonly used to address conditions such as muscle pain, sports injuries, tension headaches, myofascial pain syndrome, and fibromyalgia.

At OLA Osteopathy & Sports Medicine we provide dry needling services as an optimal pain relief modality.
